CALGARY, AB, Feb. 6, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Southern Alberta’s powerhouse rock-country outfit The Prairie Dogz have taken their road-worn, battle-hardened experience and poured it into a brand-new release – a high-energy, harmony-fueled rendition of John Denver’s timeless classic “Country Roads.”

For The Prairie Dogz, this isn’t just another cover. It’s a heartfelt tribute to the small towns, rodeos, and communities that have embraced them, given them a stage, and shared in the music.

“Our weathered, road-worn, battle-hardened band searched for a way to share the unique gift that tens of thousands of kilometers of roads have shared with us. We hoped to share a glimpse of the small towns and communities and the people we have fallen in love with on our travels,” the band shares. “Every time we play ‘Country Roads,’ we are overcome with emotion when the crowd sings this iconic song with us in unison.”

With heavy rhythms, powerhouse vocals, signature harmonies, and diverse guitar tones, the Prairie Dogz version of “Country Roads” captures the raw, electrifying energy of their live shows. “The contrast between our version and the original highlights what makes us a great live band,” says vocalist Dwight Koenning. “We love playing this song live and hope we captured some of its magic.”

The band—Koenning (vocals), Keith Hambrook (guitar, keys, vocals), Terry Studd (guitar, vocals), Dave Fast (bass, vocals), and Martin Wright (drums)—have been making their mark on Canada’s live music scene, blending rock and country with an undeniable chemistry honed through over 100 shows together.
